Refurbishment for The George in Castletown

Pub closed for refurbishment. One of Castletown’s busiest pubs closed this week for refurbishmet.

The George Hotel will re-open in the spring after the building is upgraded and modernised.

Registered as an historic building dating back to 1833, The George is currently the largest hotel within the Heron and Brearley group, with 11 bedrooms, including four king-size rooms which overlook Castle Rushen.

Di Edington, H&B’s operations manager, said: ’We have closed in order to complete this well-deserved upgrade to The George Hotel.

’As the refurbishment includes the whole building, we are closing to avoid any potential disruption to our guests.

Already popular with visitors, especially during TT and MGP, we are looking to broaden the hotel’s appeal to island residents and visitors.’

The company says the development work will include a four-star upgrade of the 11 bedrooms and a complete refurbishment of bars, toilets, kitchen as well as the outside area.

It adds that its new function room will be designed to be ’the perfect location for all types of private and corporate functions in the South of the Island”, offering the advantage of having the rooms above the pub’.

Mrs Edington added: ’As well as upgrading the building, we will enhance our fine ale and food brand in the site and we will also be building on our already popular entertainment nights.

’The George represents another substantial investment into the island by H&B and we’re excited to see what a positive impact this will to add to the regenerated Castletown Square.’
